His hearing issues exacerbated his sense of isolation, making it difficult for him to connect with others, and over time, he developed a hardened attitude that kept him from seeking or accepting assistance.

However, Portco’s dedicated team saw William’s potential and, with compassion and patience, continued to reach out to him. In collaboration with Portsmouth Community Services Board (CSB), Portco arranged for William to receive hearing aids, which greatly improved his quality of life. This breakthrough in his sensory capabilities marked a turning point, shifting his attitude and willingness to engage with others and accept help. The patience and persistence of Portco’s approach gradually won William’s trust, and he agreed to work with a case manager. Eventually, he qualified for a waiver, which unlocked a range of support options.
