Drowning Prevention Coalition of Arizona

The Drowning Prevention Coalition of Arizona is a community-based organization comprised of parents, health and safety professionals, and business leaders. We provide a forum to prevent drownings and non fatal drownings, through the promotion of education, legislative action, and enhanced product safety.

The coalition and its members participate in or sponsor a large number of events, campaigns and programs throughout the year. Some examples include:

Swim Lesson Grant Program - The DPCA grants approximately $6000 per year for swim lessons.
Tapping Into Water Safety event
April Pool Day Events - are hosted valley wide by communities addressing water safety.
Drowning Impact Awareness Campaign - Month of August
Children's Safety Zone - web site tracks water related incidents and stories statewide. www.childrensafetyzone.com
Safe Kids of Arizona's Water Safety is for You Event - involves more than 800 First Graders from all over Pima County learning about water safety during a fun day.
"Signs of Life" Community Pool Safety Campaign - features durable metal signs with water safety messages and graphics that are featured at large multi-unit housing complexes throughout the Phoenix Metro area on fences surrounding community pools.
Water Safety Curriculum - "Water Safety is for You!" curriculum was written for the first grade level by teachers for Phoenix Children's Hospital.
Life Jacket Loaner Program - The DPCA has partnered with the Ryan Thomas Foundation to collaborate with other state and local entities to establish life jacket loaner stations at several lakes and rivers in Arizona.
