Winyah Rivers Foundation, Inc. (dba Winyah Rivers Alliance)

A nonprofit organization

The mission of Winyah Rivers Alliance is to protect, preserve, monitor and revitalize the health of the lands and waters of the greater Winyah Bay watershed.

We are a local, grassroots nonprofit with our feet on the ground, working with our communities to protect our rivers for drinking, recreation, and economic vitality. Together, we safeguard clean water. We defend wetlands and floodplains. We protect vulnerable communities. We partner for sustainable stewardship. Your donation will ensure that we have local advocates working in our river watersheds to protect clean water, healthy communities, and a thriving economy.

Our focus is on the river watersheds of the Lower Pee Dee Basin in southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina, representing a drainage area of 11,700 square miles and including the Waccamaw, Lumber, Little PeeDee, Great PeeDee, Lynches, Black, and Sampit Rivers. Collectively we refer to this, the 3rd largest watershed on the east coast, as the greater Winyah Bay watershed because all rivers ultimately discharge into the Winyah Bay estuary at Georgetown, South Carolina.

We are an alliance of Riverkeepers, hosting the Waccamaw RIVERKEEPER®, Lumber RIVERKEEPER®, and Black-Sampit RIVERKEEPER® Programs, licensed by WATERKEEPER® ALLIANCE.
