Puente Human Rights Movement

Puente Human Rights Movement is a grassroots human rights organization centered on improving the quality of life for Arizona's most marginalized communities. Our mission is to educate, organize, and empower our communities to unite and build political power in a collective effort to bring about lasting change to our state.

We envision a world where all people have the right to a good quality of life and are treated with dignity. To create this world, we work to eradicate intolerance when it presents itself in economic, political, and social situations, policies, and practices that affect our daily lives.

Puente works to improve the quality of life for all communities in Arizona; we work to build a world where everyone has respect, dignity, and a good quality of life.
We work to build a world free of inhumane laws, racism, and police violence where we can live free of fear.
Puente organizes with a Closed Hand/Open Hand philosophy where the two parts work in tandem to empower communities in the state of Arizona.
The Closed Hand organizing tactic represents our trajectory to abolish oppressive policies and enforcement. We stand against adverse laws and policies through direct action, civic engagement, education, advocacy, and civil disobedience.
The Open Hand tactic represents Puente's mission to serve our community by providing a space for community members to come together as one people, despite legal status and past criminal conviction. We work to build programs and resources to support our community and prevent members from falling into the state of Arizona's "attrition through enforcement" traps.
Together, the Open Hand/Closed Hand organizing strategy model works side by side as a mechanism to educate and empower our members to fight for the wellbeing of everyone in Arizona.
