Redemption Ranch

A nonprofit organization

Here at Redemption Ranch, our mission is to provide animal-assisted trauma therapy programs to people who have experienced debilitating trauma, including veterans and first responders with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)/traumatic brain injury (TBI)/military sexual assault (MST), their families, individuals who have experienced abuse or other traumatizing event, and those recovering from addiction, depression, or loss. Individuals needing more personalized, long-term animal assistance may qualify for a service dog through Redemption Ranch's service dog training program. Animals used in these programs consist of rescued Pit Bull-type dogs and BLM mustang horses, most of which are also available for adoption into suitable homes. Thus, animals in our program serve a wide range of needs, from emotional support/companions to therapy animals to highly trained PTSD service animals, with the ultimate goal of redeeming both human and animal.

Founded in April 2019 by Virginia Burroughs, Redemption Ranch earned its 501(c)(3) status just one year later. As we embark on our 7th year as an organization, we have rescued over 65 dogs and placed over 75% of them in forever homes. We are growing our therapy dog program, having forged partnerships with local retirement communities and veterans' groups. In 2020, we were donated a young mustang mare, Wren. Since then, we have acquired three additional horses, with another headed our way at the end of April. Together, these horses will provide the foundation for us to launch our equine psychotherapy program, hopefully by the end of the year! In September of 2022, we held our inaugural "Rescued to Redeemed" celebration and fundraiser and are looking forward to holding our 4th annual event this September. We have experienced phenomenal growth and are focused on acquiring property that will allow us to expand operations. We are excited to see where this next year takes us!

We've set a $25,000 fundraising goal this year to help us build our equine therapy program, with fund primarily needed for training expenses for both personnel and our horses. We plan to become certified through EAGALA (Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy - Eagala), so our equine therapy personnel will have to travel to participate in the training program and become certified. This is a crucial step toward getting our program launched!

I Peter 1:18-19 - "For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect."

Who We Are

Our mission is two-fold: (1) rescue two classes of animals in need of their own redemption, Pit Bull type dogs and the American Mustang, and (2) transform those animals into therapy or service animals for people who have experienced trauma, including first responders and veterans with PTSD /TBI and their families, individuals who have experienced some kind of abuse or traumatizing event, and those recovering from addiction, depression, or loss. Animals rescued into our program may serve simply as emotional support/companions to highly trained PTSD service animals, with the ultimate goal of redeeming both human and animal.
