American Eskimo Rescue St. Louis

A nonprofit organization

Mission Statement: Our mission is to rescue American Eskimo dogs in
Life-threatening situations and place them in loving homes.

Purpose: Is to rescue as many American Eskimo dogs in the St. Louis and surrounding areas, bring them back to good health, and place them in loving, forever homes.

Statement of Need: To continue our mission, American Eskimo Rescue of St. Louis, Inc. (AER) needs funding to continue its mission of rescuing American Eskimo dogs and any homeless dog that needs to be rescued. We rescue dogs from shelters, animal control, and owners. Recently, many dogs come in needing so much care. In 2020, we took in six senior dogs where their owners had died. All of them needed vaccinations, bloodwork, and other tests to bring them to good health. Most of the dogs we rescue are not spayed or neutered. Each dog is very dirty, so bathing and grooming is necessary. If a dog is contagious, then the dog must be hospitalized in order to keep them from infecting other dogs in a foster home. At this time, we do not have a shelter or building, so we use foster families (volunteers) to house the homeless dogs until they are adopted to their forever homes. Here is a list of items we do for each dog we get in:

• Spay or Neuter
• Rabies
• Bordetella
• DHLP
• Fecal Test
• Heartworm Test
• Microchip
• General Exam
• Treatment for kennel cough, if needed (many come in with this)
• Treatment for urine infections (many come in with this)
• Other medical conditions
• We treat for heartworms
• We treat for heart murmurs
• Possible boarding for evaluation
• Bathing

Our Need: Would be for operating expenses. This would give us the opportunity to continue rescuing and rehabbing homeless dogs. Without support, we cannot continue our mission. If we did not rescue this breed in the St. Louis area, many of them would be put to sleep and also placed in overly crowded shelters. With our association, we open doors for other homeless dogs to be rescued.

We are an animal rescue group that is run by volunteers. There are no paid employees. We all work full-time jobs, and rescue in all of our spare time. AER does its part to make a difference in our community by taking care of dogs no one wants and finding wonderful, forever homes. This also makes our adoptive families very happy.

Background: Our mission is to save the lives of abused and unwanted American Eskimo dogs in the St. Louis area. We also serve surrounding cities and states. We are a group of dedicated volunteers, working together for the benefit of helpless and homeless Eskies. Our program is funded by donations and adoption fees. Our volunteers spend endless hours of rescue work and countless time that involves transporting, fostering, and networking to save American Eskimo lives.

Adoption from American Eskimo Rescue St. Louis includes medical attention that each rescue dog deserves. Rescued animals often make the best pets. Pets from American Eskimo Rescue seem to understand they have a second lease on life. In return for a little affection and attention, these remarkable animals reward their new owners with a love and loyalty unmatched anywhere. American Eskimo Rescue St. Louis has served the midwest for 15+ years and would love to continue and with help from donors we are able to do so.
