River City Advocacy & Counseling Center

A nonprofit organization

River City Advocacy and Counseling Center (RCA) is a New Braunfels-based nonprofit dedicated to providing affordable mental health services to individuals and families in Comal County and the surrounding areas. Founded in 2001 by Don and Donna Guenther, RCA was established to address the critical need for accessible mental health services in the community. The organization offers a range of services, including reduced-rate individual, couples, and family counseling, as well as free and reduced-rate services for veterans. Other programs include creative expression activities, support groups, life skills workshops, and special events, fostering a sense of community and empowerment

RCA's mission is to bring healing and hope through counseling and peer support, aiming to create a compassionate and caring community that embraces mental health and well-being . The organization serves a diverse population, including youth aged 6 months and older, seniors, veterans, and individuals experiencing homelessness. For youth, RCA provides counseling services and support groups tailored to their developmental needs. Seniors benefit from specialized programs that address the unique challenges they face, such as isolation and age-related mental health issues. Veterans receive dedicated support through no-cost counseling sessions and peer support groups, helping them navigate the mental and emotional challenges associated with military service . Additionally, RCA offers services to individuals experiencing homelessness, providing them with the support needed to overcome mental health challenges and work towards stability.

Who We Are

What We Do:
Promote mental health recovery through support groups and individual, couples, and family counseling.
Work against mental health stigma on behalf of those who live with mental illness.
Collaborate on community mental health through outreach, advocacy, and cooperation with our local partners.
River City Advocacy is a nonprofit organization that works to bridge the gaps in mental health care coverage in New Braunfels and Comal County.
We were founded as a place for those who experience mental illness to support one another in their recovery. In keeping with RCA’s founding purpose as a place of refuge and community, we offer peer support services in addition to professional mental health counseling.
As advocates for mental health care, we also work to reduce mental health stigma where it exists. At the core of our vision is our advocacy for mental health programs which are empowering and responsive to the needs of individuals and families in our community.
