Friends of the Rappahannock strives to be the voice and active force for a healthy and scenic Rappahannock River.

More About Us

Friends of the Rappahannock works to ensure a beautiful river that is clean for drinking water, safe for fish consumption and recreation, diverse with grasses, oysters, fish, birds & wildlife and a treasured resource. Our major focus areas are:

Advocacy, Restoration & Education

Over the past 36 years, we have engaged over 67,000 children in hands-on environmental education, teaching that through conservation, they can make a difference in the quality of their life and their community. FOR spearheaded removal of the Embrey Dam, restoring over 600 miles of spawning habitat for migratory birds and fish. We led the advocacy for the preservation of 4,232 acres of river front; ensuring 32 miles are a permanently protected river landscape for generations to enjoy.

With your donations, Friends of the Rappahannock will continue to change the lives of students and other citizens of the watershed by engaging the entire Rappahannock River community in water quality protection programs, ensuring we have a watershed where land use and run-off is managed, a community where citizens and local governments are educated stewards of our river resource, taking action in their own backyards.
