Our mission is to empower high-risk youth and young adults to achieve their full potential by providing quality educational programming in a safe environment.
Since 1984, SA Youth has worked to transform the lives of San Antonio’s most vulnerable youth—those ages 16 to 24 who are disconnected from school and employment—by offering a second chance at education, emotional healing, and career readiness.
The Need
San Antonio’s youth face complex and compounding barriers:
- 95% of SA Youth students are considered low-to-moderate income households
- 32% have a known learning disability
- 38% have a mental health diagnosis
- 24% are already parents, and
- 6% are unaccompanied minors, navigating life without family support
Opportunity Youth—young adults aged 16–24 who are not in school and not working—represent one of the most underserved populations in Bexar County. Without support, these youth risk continuing the cycle of poverty, trauma, and disengagement. SA Youth exists to intervene—now—because every year of delay is a lifetime of lost potential.
Our Impact
In just the last year, SA Youth has:
- Served 200+ Opportunity Youth through the SOAR! Youth Development Program
- Helped students earn an accredited high school diploma through credit recovery
- Provided workforce development training and leadership skills to prepare for employment
- Maintained an 85% graduation rate among program participants
- Delivered therapeutic services to more than 300 students since 2023, with 50% showing improvements on depression scales, 44% showing improved satisfaction with life, and 67% attending four or more therapy sessions
- Launched the CALM Clinic to offer low- or no-cost mental health services to the broader community
“SA Youth is nothing like regular school in the best possible way. They actually care about their students and work hard to make sure we are successful.”
