Safe Haven Humane Society

Safe Haven operates a no-kill shelter in Elizabeth, IL. and is a registered 501(c)(3) organization supported solely by private donations.

Safe Haven came about because of the concern of two dedicated animal lovers who saw the need for a humane society in Jo Daviess County. Founded in 1998, they operated through foster homes and began raising money for a building. The perfect spot was found and purchased in 2006 and renovated into a wonderful shelter that opened its doors in December 2007.

Safe Haven is open to the public from 10 am TO 3 pm Monday through Saturday or by appointment.Safe Haven is a no kill shelter in the northwest corner of Illinois. When we have room Safe Haven rescues dogs from kill shelters in the Midwest and South. Safe Haven takes in not only "adoptable" cats and dogs, but cats and dogs with physical, behavioral and health issues and brings them to an adoptable state. They stay here until we can find them the perfect loving home.

We also offer spay/neuter coupons to be used at a variety of Jo Daviess County vets. These coupons are mainly requested for cats because of the overpopulation of cats in this rural farm area.

Safe Haven gets no government funding. Our small shelter is run entirely on the generosity of individuals that love animals so funding is always needed and appreciated.
