Safety City of San Angelo

A nonprofit organization

Inspire safety education for all families and children. Enhance the safety and security of West Texas' youth.

Safety City is a miniature town where school-age children can learn hands-on the rules of fire, pedestrian, bicycle, and traffic safety. It was built over fifty years ago on a lot owned by the San Angelo Independent School District. The San Angelo Fire Department, Fire Marshal's Office, and City of San Angelo Police Department have provided officers to operate Safety City and provide instruction for third-grade students from both private and public schools.

Just as our community has grown over the past fifty years, so have the needs of our families and their children. Safety City cannot operate to maximum capacity and quality performance due to its current location and dilapidated condition. Plans are underway for a new, modern, Safety City with expanded facilities and capabilities that will better address the changing safety concerns of protecting our community! We are currently in need of new bikes, helmets, and building facet renovations so that we can provide the best experience possible at our current facility until we are able to find a new location.

Although it is in its preliminary stages, we are looking forward to having a state-of-the-art facility where children, and families, learn real-life strategies for dealing with emergencies while developing a positive attitude toward safety. Safety City will combine traditional classroom education, methods with unique interactive experiences in a realistic child-sized townscape, complete with buildings, roads with realistic pavement markings, traffic signals and street signs.
