Saint John's Hospice

A nonprofit organization

Saint John’s Hospice is a Catholic Social Services shelter for men located in Center City Philadelphia. Established in 1963 by Monsignor Anthony J. O’Neill, Pastor of Saint John the Evangelist Church, and The Little Brothers of The Good Shepherd, Saint Johns was created as an outreach ministry to serve and assist the poor and homeless in the community.

Saint John’s continues to provide crucial, life-sustaining services with dignity, respect and compassion to homeless men in Philadelphia.

Services provided are as follows:

  • Residence for over 250 men experiencing homelessness each year in the St. John’s Hospice and Good Shepherd programs
  • Over 3,000 meals each week to men experiencing homelessness
  • 160 showers with clean clothing, underwear and shoes every week
  • Mailroom services for over 1,500 men experiencing homelessness
  • Case management, medical assistance, and counseling offered for all residents and day services for 375 guests each day
  • Emergency shelter for 27 chronically homeless men where they can receive a hot meal and a safe place to sleep every night of the week
All of this is possible thanks to the on-going support of individual donors and organizations that believe in Saint John’s mission and support its good work. Because of them, Saint John’s is able to continue to serve those who are suffering and in need. Thank you for visiting our #iGiveCatholic Giving Day page and for "Giving Catholic" on #GivingTuesday!
