Who We Are

Through exquisite music and innovative programming, the San Antonio Chamber Choir elevates the spirit, enlightens the mind, and nurtures the soul. We believe that bringing choral music to San Antonio is vitally important because it builds us up together as one community and fosters incredible beauty in our lives! Choral music allows us to feel and connect to our emotions in a way that no other art form can! Your generous gifts help us sustain this much-needed musical outlet and help us provide invaluable education programs like our All State for ALL Choir Camp, a summer camp that provides a week of music learning for some 100 students from all over the San Antonio area.

The San Antonio Chamber Choir was formed in 2005 by Founding Artistic Director Scott MacPherson & several board members passionate about bringing a professional chamber choir to the San Antonio area. SACC has performed over five-hundred works on fifty programs in eight cities with a repertoire ranging from the fifteenth to the twenty-first centuries. SACC has performed at Mission San Jose, San Fernando Cathedral, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower & the H-E-B Performance Hall at the Tobin Center in December 2018, with over 900 in attendance. In 2013, SACC performed in Dallas for the American Choral Directors Association. Since 2014, SACC has been a resident company of the Tobin Center. In 2014, Rick Bjella joined SACC as Artistic Director & he has expanded the vision of the ensemble by collaborating with dozens of organizations in the San Antonio area. SACC has commissioned & premiered several choral works, including an arrangement of Hard Times by Shawn Kirchner this 2019 – 2020 season & has produced three professionally recorded albums.

SACC consists of approximately fifty contracted singers who hail from San Antonio, Austin, and South Texas. The singers collectively have many decades of experience in professional choral music, while also pursuing careers as musicians, educators and professionals. As active members of the community, SACC’s members serve a vital role in bringing the final choral music to diverse audiences.

In the summer of 2016, SACC established an annual low-cost camp for high school students, All-State For ALL. The goal of the camp is to reach students who may not be able to afford more traditional summer camps, and 20% of the students who attended were provided with scholarships. In the summer of 2019, SACC started a new ensemble for those experiencing homelessness in the urban core of the city. The Alamo City Street Choir offers a musical outlet for those experiencing homelessness and severe disadvantage. Their voices of hope and wisdom bring the community to a higher level of beauty through the art of singing.
