San Angelo Symphony

The San Angelo Symphony has long served as an advocate to promote the growth of the performing arts & music in our community. In addition to providing orchestral music performances throughout the year, we strive to create programs that establish lifelong lessons that exemplify our education department's mission statement, "To encourage the understanding, appreciation & enjoyment of music while promoting active participation through education of all adults, children and students in West Texas."

Today's San Angelo Symphony has a unique responsibility to inspire, educate, and engage our community by providing the highest quality orchestral music, to diverse audiences while also promoting active enjoyment of music through our educational programs and social events. In the coming weeks, we will kick off the Symphony's 74th season featuring five performances. No matter the concert, the San Angelo Symphony offers a great night out for every type of listener. The show must go on and your local symphony is keeping true to its roots by giving back to our community in many ways including those listed below.

• In collaboration with SAISD and other regional schools, the Symphony offers two performances of a Youth Concert appropriate for 3rd-5th graders. Weaving together classical and popular music with a child-friendly format, the concert ties in with core academic subjects. These performances not only offer SAISD and Region XV school districts an opportunity to introduce their children to symphonic music through this FREE event but school administrators and teachers receive TEKS-approved curriculum to use in the classroom prior to their visit.

After Jimmy's visit to Santa Anna Elementary, one of my first-graders created a drum out of paper with no prompting from his teacher. He was so excited and inspired by Jimmy's presentation that he did it on his own. - Johanna Lara, Santa Anna Elementary
