Louis Satchmo Armstrong Jazz Camp

A nonprofit organization

The New Orleans Arts & Cultural Host Committee was established to promote, present, and make accessible the arts and cultural heritage of New Orleans. The committee's mission is fulfilled by enhancing arts education for youth and encouraging civic and social activities for residents and visitors. NOACHC is dedicated to supporting and nurturing the talents of local artists, musicians, and entertainers. NOACHC understands that quality arts education for young people is fundamental in fostering an appreciation for artistic expression; it instills discipline and encourages the pursuit of excellence. Through the Armstrong Camp, the committee aims to address the lack of arts education in schools.

The NOACHC offers a comprehensive, all-day music education program for students over three weeks at the Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp, hosted at a local university. This venue allows participants to glimpse college life, helping them envision higher education as an attainable goal at an early age.

NOACHC celebrates over 25 years of hosting the Armstrong Camp in delivering quality music education to young people from the greater New Orleans area and neighboring parishes. The NOACHC understands that quality arts education for young people is fundamental in fostering an appreciation for artistic expression; it instills discipline and encourages the pursuit of excellence. Through the Louis Armstrong Jazz Camp, the committee addresses the lack of arts education in schools by providing expert instruction from jazz greats to young music students who might otherwise not have access to programs of this caliber. Eighty-five percent of the camp's student body receives full or partial scholarships and comes from economically challenged households. NOACHC sends musician-educators to five local schools to collaborate with teachers and students through the Armstrong Music Academy

Testimonials

Jonathan Batiste - Musician
"My love for jazz began at the camp. It was also where I realized that I was a part of musical and cultural lineage that has great importance in the world. "

Nicholas Oxley - Industrial Designer
It is one thing to learn how to play and it's another to be amongst a group of people with the shared intent to keep the language of New Orleans alive. In this I am deeply grateful.

Paul Simms - Hip Hop/Rap Artist, Producer
Jazz camp is where I learned the fundamental necessities of music. When I entered college as a music major, I was significantly ahead of my peers in understanding music theory. The Satchmo Jazz Camp is a training ground for young musicians to blossom
