Second Line Arts Collective

A nonprofit organization

Second Line Arts Collective provides music education programming from recess to record deals. We address two gaps in music instruction: early music education and music business/career sustainability. We inspire a love of music and move musicians to the center of the economic power structure by establishing a tight-knit community of artists and industry professionals.

Second Line Arts Collective (SLAC) enriches New Orleans by offering innovative music education programs rooted in cultural authenticity, financial literacy, and community empowerment.

Our Little Stompers program introduces thousands of children annually to the vibrant traditions of New Orleans music, reaching over 3,600 families through concerts and classes. By employing Sanaa Music Workshop alumni as teaching artists, we ensure authenticity and sustainable career paths for local musicians.

Through the Sanaa Music Workshop, we prepare emerging artists for long-term success, teaching critical life skills-such as financial literacy, creative marketing, and contract negotiation-transforming musicianship into sustainable careers and fostering economic growth.

Testimonials

I love the Little Stompers Program! Students explore instruments and musicians through engaging, age-appropriate lessons in singing, dancing, games, stories, writing, and drawing. They eagerly ask and answer questions, applying lessons beyond class with DIY activities. My Terrific 3s love music day, clapping, stomping, and grooving to every beat!

- Deja Johnson, Elementary Teacher

Sanaa Music Workshop prepared me for real-world musicianship and professionalism. My favorite memory? Meeting Donnie Markowitz-he brought his Oscar, and that moment stuck with me!
