Senior Citizens of Patagonia, Inc.

A nonprofit organization

The Mission of the Senior Citizens of Patagonia is to serve and support seniors of the Patagonia, Sonoita, and Elgin areas through assistance with nutrition, health, transportation, education and social services. We currently have two major programs, providing transportation for senior and disabled individuals and a nutrition program serving 7,800 meals a year.

Our organization has been operating for over 25 years, starting with the lunch program for seniors and disabled, and evolving to include transportation services for this rural market, which includes many who fall below the poverty line. We serve well-balanced hot lunches at the Patagonia Senior Center five days a week and provide transportation to and from medical appointments within a 100 mile radius of Patagonia. We utilize an ADOT-provided minivan and minibus with wheelchair lift, and will soon take possession of another van to serve Sonoita and Elgin exclusively.

We operate with two part-time employees and numerous volunteers, which include all of our drivers. We are donation-based and, while we receive support from various foundations and government agencies, we are always in need of additional funding to sustain our efforts to accommodate the nutritional and transportation needs of an expanding target population, many of whom would otherwise go without nutritious meals and needed medical attention. In order to sustain our organization and its vital and popular role in these SE Arizona communities in perpetuity, our Board of Directors will be establishing an endowment, the funding of which will be provided by legacy and gift donations.
