Sewickley Public Library

A nonprofit organization

The mission of Sewickley Public Library is to serve as a center for lifelong learning by providing free access to informational, educational, cultural and recreational library resources that address the interests and needs of the children and adults in the greater Quaker Valley community. The Library seeks to fulfill its mission by providing access to the world of ideas and imagination through its educational resources, enrichment programs, welcoming environment and competent staff.

Our library is a center for life-long learning that brings value to our community. We collaborate with other Sewickley area non profits and county public libraries for the purpose of enhancing the quality of life in our region and providing optimal library services for all. Our collections are diverse and-up to-date; our formats include print and digital options. The library offers a variety of programs for children and teens utilizing the STEAM initiative promoted by the PA Department of Education and in support of the Quaker Valley School District. For example, the Summer Reading Clubs and the annual Battle of the Books programs; Lego WeDo; Chess; Pre-school Math and Science programs and Smart Art are just a few of the programs offered at the library. Teen programs feature SAT practice courses; Make'N'More (an informal maker space); an Anime Club and the Gender & Sexuality Alliance group. Other programs include a variety of book clubs for all ages; writing opportunities; career and job search assistance; healthy living programs; genealogy assistance, computer training and more.

Testimonials

March 2016
Dear Mrs. Crawford and Children's Library Staff,
I wanted to thank so much for all your efforts with the Battle of the books. I cannot begin to describe how it has transformed our son. He used to grit his teeth when we would make him read a "chapter" book. I can assure you he was winning the battle - so STUBBORN!
Since BOB started, he has decided not to let his team down. He heads out to the school bus reading; jumps off the bus in the afternoon with those books at his nose. He even declined watching a family movie with us last Friday night and went to the living room to finish his book.
He has read his required 3 and chosen 2 additional ones, which he loved, and wants to find out from his Captain the next he should concentrate on. Truly unbelievable - he genuinely enjoyed all 5.
We cannot thank you enough for giving him the LIFETIME gift of loving reading!
