Give NOLA 2024 | Support Seymore's Drug Prevention Initiatives

Your support matters! Donations from Give NOLA 2024 will play a crucial role in supporting Seymore's Foundation's drug prevention initiatives.

Why Donate to Seymore's Foundation?

Your contribution will help us offset the costs associated with presenting Seymore Salutes 'Kiki's Red Ribbon School Celebration' Virtual Program Facilitator Workshops to the 13 surrounding parish school systems, serviced by the Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF).

These workshops are essential as they allow Team Seymore to introduce and provide implementation guidance for our drug education program to all elementary and middle schools (K-6th) located within the service area. Our program is carefully designed to be age group/grade-level appropriate, offering teacher guides, daily lesson plans, a 5-day curriculum, student activity worksheets, and classroom slide decks. Best of all, we provide all program materials to participating school systems free of charge.

The Impact of Your Donation

The target student population in the 13 area parishes is a staggering 118,721 Kindergarten through 6th-grade students. Your support helps us reach these students with vital drug education and prevention resources.

Kiki's Red Ribbon School Celebration | A Community Commitment

As an official Red Ribbon Week & National Family Partnership Affiliate for the state of Louisiana, Seymore's Foundation proudly presents "Seymore Salutes, Kiki's Red Ribbon School Celebration" from October 23 through October 31 as part of the 'Louisiana is Better with ME 100% Drug-Free!' campaign. This program is created to honor the memory of DEA Special Agent Kiki Camarena.

Over the past 6 years, our curriculum has been tested in St. Tammany and Lafayette parishes with great success. Now, we're expanding this program to the 13 parishes served by the Greater New Orleans Foundation for the 2024/2025 school year.

Your Support Creates Impact

Through the program pilot from 2018 to 2023, Seymore's Foundation collaborated with the New Orleans Division of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to offer a five-day celebration, engaging schools and communities in keeping children and families safe and drug-free. Mika Camarena, the wife of DEA agent "Kiki" Camarena, visited schools in Lafayette, Mandeville, and New Orleans as part of the pilot program.

"Kiki's Red Ribbon School Celebration" is based on the legacy of DEA Special Agent Enrique S. "Kiki" Camarena, who was tragically killed in 1985 after being kidnapped by drug traffickers in Mexico. This event led to the annual Red Ribbon campaign, uniting the nation in the commitment to a drug-free world.

Our program promotes and encourages a "Drug-Free Louisiana." It was developed by certified early childhood educators and trainers, with daily classroom activities delivered in 50-minute sessions. These sessions cover important topics like the qualities of a hero, how a bill becomes law, the dangers of drugs, self-esteem, and a drug-free scavenger hunt. The program meets all Louisiana education curriculum standards and statutory requirements for annual drug prevention instruction in elementary and middle schools.

Join Our Campaign: "Louisiana, is Better with ME 100% Drug-Free!"

2020 marked the launch of Seymore's Foundation's "Louisiana, is Better with ME 100% Drug-Free!" campaign. We partnered with the 2018 Louisiana Legislature to create House Bill 777, which passed unanimously. Governor Edwards signed the bill into law as ACT 283, allowing the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles to produce and distribute Seymore's own specialty "drug-free" license plate.

These license plates act as mobile 'drug-awareness' billboards, featuring Seymore and the slogan "Louisiana is Better with ME 100% Drug-Free!" The plates became available to Louisiana vehicle owners through local DMV offices in December 2020, with funds generated from their sale designated for drug education programs. Your support enables us to offer these programs at no charge to elementary and middle schools across the state.
