Sisters Helping Each Other Reach a Higher Height

A nonprofit organization

Sisters Helping Each other Reach A Higher Height (S.H.E.R.A.H.) was founded on March 6, 2004 as a community sister circle. Our mission is to create a safe spaces for women and girls of color.

We have three programs that we currently offer the community.

S.H.E.R.A.H. Movement provides professional and personal development workshops to women. We also offer sister circles, retreats, conferences and more. The S.H.E.R.A.H. Movement has provided space to over 2,000 women.

We also created a girl's empowerment program called the L.O.V.E. Project. This program is designed to teach young girls the principles associated with self-love, sisterhood, community development and entrepreneurship.

In 2019, we have accomplished the following:

We have hosted sister circles and safe spaces for over 500 unduplicated black girls and girls of color in 13 different schools, serving six different school districts.

Our LOVE Project girls have formed a Human Trafficking Task Force and brought awareness to over 1300 people through small events and gatherings. The girls also produced their own Human Trafficking Awareness video.

We have supported more than 10 women with rental assistance, utility support and housing support.

We send Daily Love Notes to over 200 girls, which is a program that sends motivational messages to our LOVE Project girls every morning before school.

We successfully hosted our 3rd Annual Mother and Daughter Retreat. We were able to take 150 people camping, offering workshops on self-love and building strong bonds between mother and daughter. The retreat was completely free to all families.

We supported 100 of our girls over the summer, ensuring they had access to food and basic necessities.

We also purchased our very first safe house in January 2018! The house provides refuge to women who have experienced homelessness as a result of sexual violence. Our program is designed to cultivate the minds, bodies and spirits of the program participants. We take a holistic approach to this work by ensuring that the women are eating healthy, working out, gaining meaningful access to education, exploring their skills and talents, receiving counseling and mental health support among other things. Since opening our doors, we have provided a safe residential space to more than 45 women.
