Sierra Business Council is a triple bottom line organization based in Truckee and serving the entire Sierra Nevada region with programs that enhance community vitality, environmental quality, and economic prosperity simultaneously.
On the ground, this work includes advocacy on behalf of the Sierra in Sacramento, supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs with no-cost resources, and climate action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and foster a more resilient Sierra.
We are proud to have a strong presence in the Truckee/Tahoe region. Programs include our Sierra Small Business Development Center, which has served 328 local entrepreneurs with no-cost one-on-one consulting (launching 18 new businesses and creating or retaining 129 jobs) and re-launched the Martis Fund Down Payment Assistance program this year.
We manage the Lake Tahoe Water Trail and launched a new website this year (www.LakeTahoeWaterTrail.org), which helps paddlers safely navigate the shores of Lake Tahoe while reducing the expansion of invasive species.
Our Climate Planning Team assisted Placer County in the development of the County's Sustainability Plan, completed greenhouse gas re-inventories for the Town of Truckee and Placer County (along with other communities throughout the Sierra), and supported the Truckee Tahoe Airport District and JMA in a $1.4 million grant application for trail improvements connecting Truckee River Sports Park and Soaring Way development.
Our ongoing advocacy on behalf of the Sierra in Sacramento helped secure the historic amount of funding for the region, which included in Proposition 68 which passed this June. These are just a few of our major impacts in 2018.
Your gift this giving season will help SBC do more: ramping up our advocacy efforts to secure the Sierra's fair share of state funding, accelerate our climate action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and develop more resilient communities, and build our resources to support small businesses and local entrepreneurs.
Thank you in advance for your support!
