Sierra Business Council is a triple bottom line organization based in Truckee and serving the entire Sierra Nevada region with programs that enhance community vitality, environmental quality, and economic prosperity simultaneously.

On the ground, this work includes advocacy on behalf of the Sierra in Sacramento, supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs with no-cost resources, and climate action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and foster a more resilient Sierra.

We are proud to have a strong presence in the Truckee/Tahoe region. Programs include the Sierra Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Sierra Nevada Energy Watch (SNEW), Sierra Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Partnership (CAMP) the Gold Country Broadband Consortium, the Lake Tahoe Water Trail, and many other you can read about here

Over the last year, our economic empowerment team administered $12.5 million in loans and grants to small businesses while providing direct assistance to 1,075 clients to help create or retain over 3,000 jobs in the Sierra. We also assisted Placer and Nevada County in securing a combined $1 million in grant funds to improve broadband access in underserved areas and delivered $1.75 million in down payment assistance through 35 Martis Fund homebuyer loans. Meanwhile, our climate action team accelerated energy independence and climate action at 16 jurisdictions and special districts. This year’s regional advocacy wins were also significant, including successfully advocating for a $1.5 billion wildfire funding package and a $3.7 billion climate resilience package in California’s State Budget.

This work was guided by Sierra Business Council’s vision of a diverse, inventive, and sustainable region where the economy is vibrant, the land is thriving, and the communities offer opportunity for all. With your support, we will continue to implement this vision in 2022 and beyond, addressing the challenges you’ve witnessed firsthand.

Over the coming year, we will cultivate a thriving post-COVID Sierra economy, advance recovery initiatives in wildfire impacted communities, increase state investments in the region, accelerate workforce housing solutions, publish a Sierra-wide climate vulnerability assessment, bridge the digital divide in rural California, elevate recreation and outdoor access solutions, and increase regional capacity for climate adaptation and mitigation efforts. To accomplish all this, we need your support.

As a prospective donor to Sierra Business Council, we’re asking you to champion our shared vision for the Sierra and Tahoe this giving season. Your contribution will directly benefit the communities, environment, and local economies of the Sierra, strengthening not just our work here at Sierra Business Council, but the entire region. This year, the first $10,000 in donations will be matched by our board of directors.

With gratitude,

Steve Frisch, President & Allan Pietrasanta, Board Chair
