As we celebrate our 34th season, the Sierra Nevada Winds Orchestra seeks essential financial support to continue delivering engaging community-based performances and education outreach for children across Placer, Sacramento, and Yuba Counties.

Under the inspiring direction of Dr. Robert Halseth, Professor of Music and Director of Bands Emeritus at Sacramento State University, the Winds stands as Northern California's leading community-based band. Our ensemble features numerous talented musicians, including university-trained instrumentalists, dedicated music teachers, and former military band members who generously donate their musical expertise and time to present engaging performances for all ages. 

The Winds achieved national recognition from the John Philip Sousa Foundation, which presented our organization with its highest national honor: the Sudler Silver Scroll Award. This prestigious national award highlights our invaluable cultural contributions to our local communities over three decades. Only two other California-based bands have received this honor since 1987.

At the core of our mission is a commitment to music education outreach. In response to increasing budget cuts facing performing arts programs, we are dedicated to fostering a love for music among young people. Each fall, we produce two well-attended children’s concerts for elementary through high school-age students, which provide essential exposure to live music and nurture a lifelong passion for music in young people. 

With your help, we plan to expand our musical outreach programs by offering school-based instrument demonstrations and additional children's concerts each spring.
