Sisters Place, Inc.

Sisters Place faithfully provides opportunities for families and individuals to overcome poverty and homelessness through empowerment, housing, wellness, personal and professional advancement services.

The Supportive Housing Program provides housing to homeless single parents and their children. The parent must have a disability - physical, mental, drug, and/or alcohol addiction. Twenty-five units are scattered throughout the Hilltop Area, south of Pittsburgh. Families enjoy the anonymity of living in a larger development and may remain in Sisters Place housing indefinitely as long as they follow program guidelines and have dependent children.



Each family enters the program with different needs and situations. They meet with Program staff to help them determine their goals and provide them with the resources and tools to begin achieving these goals. Program staff helps to assess their wellness needs, such as addiction support and mental and physical health, and to help them with educational personal and professional needs, such as GED preparation, college applications, and employment resources.

Housing remains a vital part of serving families. Recently a young man in the program shared with us that because he didn't have to worry about a roof over his head, a safe place to sleep at night or where he would get his next meal that he was able to focus on being a typical teenager - he could focus on his life and future. In addition to meeting his housing needs, Program staff played a large part in encouraging him to apply for CAPA, a Pittsburgh performing arts school, where he is thriving with like-minded students. This is an example of how our staff continuously works with the families on achieving the personal goals that they set together, and how the one-on-one support we extend to families experiencing poverty and homelessness is at the heart of our mission.
