Society of St. Vincent de Paul - Southwest Texas

A nonprofit organization

Who We Are

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Southwest Texas is a lay Catholic organization committed to walking with our neighbors in crisis, offering help, hope, and a pathway forward.

Across 50 Vincentian led Conferences, our Vincentian volunteers work tirelessly to feed the hungry, shelter the unhoused, keep the lights on, and uplift those who feel forgotten. Whether in food pantries, home visits, or community outreach, we meet people with dignity and compassion, serving all needs, no hesitation, full heart.

Why We’re Raising Funds

Your support during The Big Give helps sustain this grassroots network of care. From food assistance, rent assistance, and utility assistance, we respond to the real needs of real people, right here in our Southwest Texas communities.

We want to share one story of impact that captures the heart of this work.

Your Gift. Their Fresh Start.

When someone is living in crisis, a fresh start begins with the smallest things. Clean hands, a warm shower, a bar of soap, a note that says “You’re not alone.”

This summer, thanks to the generosity of donors like you, we were able to create and distribute over 200 Fresh Start Kits to families in our most under-resourced communities.

These kits included:

  • Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant

  • Toothbrushes, toothpaste, non-perishable food items, and more

  • A handwritten note from a student volunteer

They were simple. But they meant everything.

Your Impact Last Year

These kits are just one part of a much bigger story. A Society of Hope, Heart, and Service.

What Your Gift Supports

Your gift during The Big Give fuels this full network of action. It doesn’t go to one pantry or one project. It strengthens the entire Society across our 18 county service area.

Your generosity helps us say “Yes” more often. Yes to emergency aid. Yes to hygiene kits. Yes to feeding families. Yes to a fresh start.

This Big Give, we invite you to give with a full heart and help someone else begin again.

Who We Are

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) Archdiocese of San Antonio's mission is to offer “…person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul." Out of his desire to help the poor in his surrounding community, a young Parisian student, Frederic Ozanam, and several companions formed what ultimately became the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) in 1833. The organization flourished and spread throughout Europe and Mexico, eventually coming to the United States in 1845. Opening its doors at St. Mary's Catholic Church in 1871, SVDP was one of the earliest charitable foundations in San Antonio.

The SVDP's motto is "no work of charity is foreign to the Society." This motto is taken seriously as the hungry, homeless, and destitute come to the Society’s doors seeking help. Hand in hand with the SVDP's mission is the vision to "create pathways out of poverty" for those served by the organization.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of San Antonio guides and oversees 62 Catholic parish-based location sites. Today in San Antonio nearly 21% (1 in 5) of San Antonio residents live below poverty level. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) is dedicated to helping those in need.
