Emergency Relief Fund for Latine LGBTQ+ Youth and Families in Crisis

Fundraising Goal: $20,000

Somos Familia is urgently launching a 20,000 dollar Emergency Fund to support Latine LGBTQ+ youth, undocumented youth, DACA recipients, and low income Indigenous families in the Bay Area. Our community is being directly harmed by the current political climate, which is affecting immigration, income, food access, housing stability, school safety, and many of the basic needs that families depend on. This fund will allow Somos Familia to respond immediately to the emergencies we are seeing every day.

Urgent Need

The political climate has intensified fear and instability for Latine LGBTQ+ youth and their families. Anti immigrant rhetoric, policy shifts, and economic disruptions are creating a crisis that touches every part of daily life. Families are losing jobs without warning, struggling to put food on the table, and facing new threats to their immigration status. Undocumented youth and DACA recipients are experiencing extreme uncertainty about their legal protection, their ability to work, and their access to school and healthcare.

Low income Indigenous families, including monolingual households, are facing barriers to safety, resources, and culturally grounded support. LGBTQ youth are reporting increased discrimination, emotional distress, and isolation as political attacks on queer and trans people escalate.

Food security, income, mental health, school stability, transportation, safety, and immigration status are all being impacted at once. Families are reaching out to Somos Familia with urgent needs that require immediate action.

Purpose of the Emergency Fund

Somos Familia is creating this Emergency Fund in direct response to what we are witnessing in our community. The fund will support families in moments of crisis by allowing us to:

• Respond quickly when families confront immigration threats or emergencies

• Support undocumented youth and DACA recipients who are facing legal or financial instability

• Assist low income Indigenous families who need urgent access to culturally rooted services

• Address immediate needs related to food, school stability, transportation, and safety

• Provide emotional and mental health support for LGBTQ+ youth who are experiencing distress

This fund gives us the ability to act immediately when a family calls for help and prevents crises from becoming more harmful.

Impact

This Emergency Fund will stabilize Latine LGBTQ families across the Bay Area. It will help youth remain safe, connected, and supported during a moment where everything around them is shifting. It will allow Somos Familia to prevent harm, reduce trauma, and create a safety net for families who are navigating the combined pressures of poverty, immigration status, discrimination, and political hostility.

Somos Familia is a trusted Latine LGBTQ+ led organization with more than 15 years of experience supporting families in the Bay Area. We provide bilingual, culturally responsive services rooted in community care and collective strength. Our staff has the experience, relationships, and community trust needed to distribute emergency assistance quickly and equitably.
