The South Whidbey Historical Society collects, preserves and presents information, stories and artifacts of our history, weaving together the diverse experiences of our people as context for today's decision makers and inspiration for tomorrow's leaders.
Local history informs us about the human condition -- what we have in common with people who occupied the very same place as us decades and even centuries before. It is the story of us, or how we came to be... us.
We glimpse how lives were shaped by the times in which they found themselves... the larger societal issues that challenged them... and the rapid technology and innovations that forced their ways of life to change... and ponder how we are shaped by the times in which we find ourselves. We come to understand that we are part of a larger continuum of community.
In past years, the South Whidbey Historical Society offered:
• a Fishing Resorts of South Whidbey bus tour,
• Saturday morning Langley walking tours led by Bob Waterman,
• local history videos and Facebook posts,
• a month-long February South Whidbey historical exhibit at Bayview Corner
• 'Then and Now' South Whidbey historical talks
We operate on a small budget and we must have individual donor support in order to be able to continue sharing the history of South Whidbey.
May we count on you to help keep our community's story going?
