The Spay Neuter Project, an all-volunteer organization, provides low-cost, donation-based spay/neuter and vaccination services in Park County. Where spay/neuter is the norm, abandoned and neglected animals are rare. Our motto: IF IT WORKS, FIX IT!!
We hold regular high-impact, high-volume Big Kitty Fix spay-neuter clinics for pet cats, barn and farm cats, and we partner with Park County veterinary clinics to provide cost-share vouchers for owners to get their dogs and cats altered. These vouchers support local veterinarians who wish to assist clients who might be otherwise unable to afford their services.
We work on a donation-based system in which people pay what they can afford at clinics and for cost-share vouchers. These donations make up approximately 40 percent of our funding. The other 60 percent comes through community fundraising. GIVE A HOOT is our most significant fundraising effort and enables us to continue helping animals and their people.
In our 2025 Big Kitty Fix clinics, the Spay Neuter Project altered and vaccinated 300 cats, and Dr. Laurel Rhodes provided low-cost vaccinations and/or microchips for 100 dogs and 36 cats. In addition, 83 dogs and 54 cats were altered and vaccinated by local veterinarians during 2025 through our cost-share voucher program.
"The vouchers provided by the Spay Neuter Project allow us to give back to our community in a meaningful way, helping to control pet overpopulation and providing access to vaccinations for our neighbors who otherwise may not be able to afford them." - Ellen Holbrook, DVM. Associate Veterinarian | Colmey Veterinary Hospital
