Steel Valley Trail Council

A nonprofit organization

Our Mission is to assure quality construction & long-term stewardship of the Steel Valley Trail: a community driven, environmentally sensitive bicycle & pedestrian trail, accessible to people of all ages & all abilities, providing vital linkage through the Monongahela Valley near Pittsburgh, PA. The planned trail network is 19 miles, connecting the communities of Clairton, Glassport, McKeesport, Duquesne, West Mifflin, Whitaker, Munhall, Homestead, West Homestead, Pittsburgh, Swissvale & Rankin.

We are the all-volunteer organization responsible for the Steel Valley trail section of the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP), connecting the Three Rivers Heritage Trail to the Youghiogheny River section of the GAP en route to Cumberland, MD and beyond to Washington, DC. We are also responsible for the Clairton Connector, an on-road bicycle route connecting the Great Allegheny Passage to the Montour Trail, which is part of the proposed United States Bicycle Route 50. Additionally, we advocate for the extension of the trail along the North Bank of the Monongahela River. We are a chapter of the Regional Trail Corporation and member of the Allegheny Trail Alliance.
