St. Louis - Graduate Women in Science

A nonprofit organization

We encourage diversity in STEM through professional development events, travel grants, research grants, local conferences, and outreach events in the St. Louis community. We also offer networking and leadership opportunities, to build a supportive community of people interested in promoting diversity and inclusion in STEM. As an example of our programs impact, we held our 1st Annual St. Louis Chapter of GWIS Conference with the theme of Diverse Voices in STEM during Women's History month in 2020. There were diverse speakers from social psychology, primarily women, who presented their research on gender and racial inequality in academia and on social neuroscience research. There was also a mentoring luncheon where women in STEM discussed different topics with graduate and undergraduate students from work-life balance to responding to microaggressions. Finally, there was a poster session for undergraduate and graduate students to present their research. We plan to hold another conference this year and we would like to bus in high school students from all across St. Louis so they may have the opportunity to attend this event to support, recognize, and empower women in STEM.
