NOTE: For the month of June, Sundance Association COVID-19 Relief Fund donations are being channeled first through this Give Out Day platform. The minimum donation is $10. If you have already donated to the Give Out Day fund, we encourage you to make subsequent donations to our COVID-19 Relief Fund. Thank you.
$10 is all it takes to build a community!
We are competing for up to $10,000 in grant funding to be awarded to the organizations with the greatest number of unique donors who give a minimum of $10 to their organization's Give Out Day page between June 1 and June 30. Unique donors should have different names and email addresses, and we recommend different credit cards as well. PLEASE NOTE: Two $10 donations from two different people will be more valuable to us than one $20 donation.
The Sundance Association for Country-Western Dancing was formed in 1999 to provide education in and programs for country-western dancing in the LGBT+ community in San Francisco. As an all-volunteer and community-supported nonprofit, the Sundance Association fosters individual growth and passion, encourages volunteerism and financial giving, and strives to create an inclusive and welcoming community.
The major projects of the Sundance Association include:
The Sundance Association is much more than a listing of its projects would suggest. The contribution of the Sundance Association to the health of the greater LGBT community and the individuals within it cannot be overstated. All of the projects of the Sundance Association have a primary goal of developing a culture of welcoming inclusiveness. Attendees find there is no importance placed on attractiveness, dance ability, socio-economic status, age, race, ethnicity, gender identification, sexual orientation, or any of a myriad of classifications that traditionally separate us. As a result, we host a wide cross-section of the LGBT+ community (e.g. ages 20s to 80s, men and women, cis and trans, gay and straight), who all mix together and dance with each other in a utopian environment that doesn't exist anywhere else.
While we serve a wide range of the LGBT+ community, there are some specific sub-populations that deserve special mention:
The Sundance Association is fiscally responsible. As an all-volunteer organization, we have zero expenses for staff, and our administrative expenses (excluding insurance) are consistently less than 3% of our total expenses.
We face special challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic. Sundance Saloon has been closed since March 12, resulting in a total loss of income from admission fees. Because of the nature of our activities, we do not expect our situation to improve for many months. Still, we continue to work on fulfilling our mission by providing weekly Sunday night live-streaming dance lessons, monthly Zoom socials, and amazing shelter-in-place line dance composite videos that exemplify how we bring our community together even during times of hardship.
We hope you will support us during this difficult time, so we can continue our community-building work, and so we're ready and able to dance together in celebration when that time comes.
