$2,000 Goal

The success of our organization is directly measured by the success of the research center we support, Saint Louis University Liver Center, and all of its many accomplishments. Over twenty-one years of fundraising events, Friends of the Saint Louis University Liver Center has raised over $5.7 million to support research and education for the Saint Louis University Liver Center. A total of 54 Liver Center Seed Grants have been awarded to its members since 2005 through a Request For Applications (RFA) process. These directed research grants were established to provide bridge or seed grant funding to Liver Center investigators while they work toward developing their projects, gathering preliminary data allowing them to submit NIH grant applications and publish their results. The 54 grants that were awarded total $1,726,422 and additionally $197,175 of research equipment and laboratory research supplies was purchased. These seed grant funds generated NIH, VA and foundation awards totaling over $34 million, which represents more than a 18.4 fold, return on investment. More than 2,250 original papers, chapters, reviews and editorials were published by Liver Center members in the past 21 years. The Friends have also supported 12 student stipends totaling $39,000 for undergrad and graduate students to work in the laboratories of Liver Center investigators. It is our hope that supporting these students will help foster the development of the next generation of medical researchers.
