Symphonicity

A nonprofit organization

Did you know: Every year, Symphonicity supplies 200+ musicians with over 3,000 pieces of sheet music!?

For musicians, sheet music is everything. As essential as violinists' bows or clarinetists' reeds, sheet music is a vital component to any orchestra's rehearsals and performances. Even with the increased popularity of iPad's, all orchestra and chorus members rely on Symphonicity to provide either paper or digital parts in order to participate in rehearsals and performances.

As our region's premier community orchestra, Symphonicity relies on our community's support to keep "turning the page". This Give Local 757, we hope you will join in our music making by supporting our music - literally! A donation to Symphonicity today will support our musicians' ability to continue serving our community through their love of music.

About the Music

Symphonicity's Music Librarian, Paula, takes care of all of the music for every musician - making sure everyone has the right parts for each concert. Some pieces are very expensive, or we only plan to feature on one concert, so we choose to rent those parts. Rental sheet music is shipped to us for musicians to use and then we ship them right back so another orchestra can use them!

Some music we expect to play over and over - like The Nutcracker or Beethoven's Fifth - so Symphonicity invests in parts we can use year after year. After years of wear and tear, sometimes these have to be replaced as well. For the music that we own, Symphonicity keeps it stored safely in its very own library, The Redford Music Library. Check it out on the right!

About Symphonicity

Symphonicity, the premier community orchestra of Virginia Beach, is an exceptionally talented and diverse group of musicians who voluntarily provide innovative music performances and educational opportunities for the community. We are a proud member of the resident companies at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts with more than 200 volunteer orchestra musicians and choristers who perform for the love of music each year. We offer five masterworks performances, multiple pops concerts, an annual sing-along of Handel's Messiah, an annual children's concert and dozens of small chamber performances throughout our community.

Who We Are

Symphonicity is comprised of more than 200 auditioned orchestra musicians and chorus members who “play for the love of music” and voluntarily come together every year to share this high-quality music with the Hampton Roads community at the most affordable price possible. This is accomplished by relying on thousands of annual volunteer hours by our members with financial support from public and private sponsorship. Together we offer the community a Masterworks Concert Series as well as other beloved seasonal and popular music concerts, small community outreach performances and numerous educational opportunities. We are a proud member of the resident companies at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts.

The Masterworks Concert Series is the heart of Symphonicity's performance offering to the community. It consists of five concerts presenting major symphonic works in a traditional concert format and features an array of professional guests artists with local, national and international connections. One of our greatest aims as a community orchestra is to offer amateur musicians an opportunity to participate in excellent music-making with iconic music in a professional performance space. Through this we offer the community greater opportunity to engage the senses and deepen their understanding and appreciation of culture through the performing arts.
