As you've no doubt heard, our city, our state, and our country are facing an unprecedented shortage of teachers. This shortage should be the concern of every citizen in this community, whether they have children or not. A lack of high-quality educators in a community undermines the overall quality of education, limits students' opportunities for growth and development, and exacerbates education inequities.

Teach Kentucky is a selective teacher recruitment program seeking to attract diverse, motivated people to teach in Kentucky's public schools, enhancing the quality of education for our students and enriching our civic life by retaining bright minds in the region. Since our founding in 2001, Teach Kentucky has brought over 400 new teachers to Louisville, with the majority of them taking jobs within Jefferson County Public Schools. With a retention rate of over 70% at the three-year mark, Teach Kentucky's commitment to supporting and retaining teachers is evident. In comparison, the national average retention rate is 50%.

Teach Kentucky is driven by three underlying, connected beliefs: education is the key to future opportunity and life success, all children deserve access to rigorous, high-quality education, regardless of their socioeconomic status and the teacher at the front of the room is still the most important lever to improve public education.
