The War memorial honors the efforts and sacrifice of veterans across the Panhandle, providing a place for reflection and healing. We have a beautiful memorial park which honors the sacrifice of over 1,550 Panhandle residents who gave their lives in wars from WWI to Afghanistan. Inside the museum, you will enjoy our displays of military artifacts and art. Examine a Norden bomb site, at one time the second most highly classified piece of equipment in WWII. Learn about the only battle in US military history in which every solider was awarded the Medal of Honor - it happened right here in the Texas Panhandle! Explore our high-tech computer kiosk learning center. Chose from 11 wars the US has fought from the Revolutionary war to Afghanistan and learn the history of those wars. The images on our 11 foot walls are breathtaking. We want school kids from across the Panhandle to visit on a field trip to learn about our history and perhaps gain respect for our military. And of course, we offer aid referral services to veterans and their families. Recently a veteran asked our help with a VA mistake on his pension; saying the veteran had been overpaid $42,000 and would receive no pension until that amount was drawn down to $0. Our staff gathered official documentation to prove the "overpayment" was a mistake and helped send that to the VA. We determined the veteran did not have money for for food; we helped him enroll in Social Security, Meals on Wheels, and the Food Bank. Support the War Memorial and help us support our veterans.
