Texas Ramp Project

A nonprofit organization

$11,980 raised by 36 donors

The Texas Ramp Project provides free wheelchair ramps for low-income older adults and others with disabilities identified by local health care providers. The ramps are built by all-volunteer crews and follow ADA guidelines.

The Texas Ramp Project has crews across Texas, with many living and located in the North Texas Region (NTX). Since its founding in 1985, TRP has provided nearly 27,292 ramps to low-income people across the state who need a ramp and can’t afford it. These ramps, if laid end-to-end, would extend for 139 miles.

In 2023, volunteers built over 2,400 ramps across the state of Texas and 534 for our neighbors in the NTX region.  A ramp built with volunteer labor costs about $1,000. Most ramps are for older adults.

With a new ramp, clients gain safe access, independence, improved quality of life, and easier exit in a fire or other emergency. Caregivers are relieved of physical labor, and elderly spouses are at less risk assisting their loved one on steps. The ramps also allow older adults to age safely in their own home.

We also welcome volunteers who would like to build ramps. Please go to www.texasramps.org and click on “Volunteer!”
