Texture Contemporary Ballet

A nonprofit organization

The mission of Texture Contemporary Ballet is to create and present authentic and dynamic movement that is based in classical ballet. Our artists express originality and passion through collaboration and performance, with the goal to inspire an appreciation of dance, and to captivate our audiences.

Texture performs three main stage shows a year and one Choreography Project. Our main stage shows are at the New Hazlett Theater, which is located on the city's North Side and is fully wheelchair accessible and offers assistive listening devices.

Our latest main stage show was Interfusion at the New Hazlett Theater, July 21-24, 2016. There were four full length performances and one Children's Performance. The shows featured our resident company plus 13 guest dancers, and the incomparable cello rock band, Cello Fury. The production was inspired by Cello Fury's original music, which they performed live. The choreographers included Alan Obuzor, Kelsey Bartman, and hip hop artist Gabriel Ash. In July 2015 we started offering Children's Performances of our main stage shows at the very affordable rate of $10 per family. They include excerpts from our full length show and an interactive portion where the children are invited onto the stage to join our dancers and participate in some creative movement and intro to dance exercises.

March 18-20, 2016 was our show Reflections at the New Hazlett Theater. It featured nine dancers and choreography by our resident choreographers Alan Obuzor and Kelsey Bartman, choreography by Point Park graduates Jamie Erin Murphy and Annalee Traylor, and choreography by dancer Jean-Paul Weaver. Weaver's piece featured guest artist Kiera Brinkley, a talented quadriplegic dancer from Portland, Oregon. There were three full length performances and one Children's Performance.

September 25-27, 2015 was our show Timescape at the New Hazlett Theater. It featured 13 dancers and choreography by Alan Obuzor, Kelsey Bartman, and dancer Alexandra Tiso. The one piece featured the score to Infinity, written by composer Blake Ragghianti. There were three full length performances and one Children's Performance.

The 8th Installment of WIP Choreography Project was held on Nov 20, 2015 at Bloomfield's Pittsburgh Dance Center, also wheelchair accessible. It featured eight pieces by ten choreographers, Kelsey Bartman, Corey Bourbonniere, Cameron Boyd, Jamie Erin Murphy, Henry Steele, Alexandra Tiso, Catherine Tiso, Brynn Vogel, Jean-Paul Weaver, Diana Yohe, and fifteen resident and guest dancers.
