More information about The Cat People

The Cat People, an all-volunteer organization, was founded by two friends outraged at the treatment of abandoned felines in October of 1990, in BakersfieldCalifornia. They soon gathered a group of compassionate individuals who wanted to help these animals. The mission statement grew to encompass the plight of homeless felines city-wide. The mission of The Cat People is to reduce the cat overpopulation through spay/neuter and adoption programs, compassionately manage feral cat colonies, and provide education and assistance to community members in need.

Please consider donating to support our mission! Since we are all volunteers, every penny counts. Donations go straight to supporting cats in Kern County!

In 2016, The Cat People bought property to develop a cat adoption center, hold workshops, and house homeless cats and kittens until they can be adopted. The sanctuary is now a reality and is home to 60-100 cats and kittens at any given time. In 2021 The Cat People funded several free spay/neuter clinics and hundreds of cats were altered!
