The DePaul Catholic School

The DePaul Catholic School is an innovative urban elementary school dedicated to carrying out the legacy of St. Vincent de Paul by empowering students to be life-long learners, leaders, and servants who build the Kingdom of God.

The DePaul Catholic School, an Independence Mission School, in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood nurtures the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual growth of students in kindergarten through 8th grade.

Founded in 1901 as St. Francis of Assisi School, its mission was to educate the children of the parish.  In 1986, St. Francis of Assisi School was re-named St. Martin de Porres when St. Francis, St. Madeline Sophie, and St. Vincent de Paul School merged. In 2009, renamed The DePaul Catholic School to reflect its commitment to the philosophies of St. Vincent de Paul and the school’s historical ties to the Vincentians, a religious order of priests and brothers who founded the school and staffed it.

In 2013, DePaul Catholic became part of IMS, a nonprofit, independent network of Catholic schools.

Independence Mission Schools (IMS) is a nonprofit network of 14 independent Catholic schools, dedicated to serving 4,000 students from Pre-K to 8th grade across some of Philadelphia's most underserved neighborhoods. We are committed to preparing students for a range of paths to success, whether that’s attending a top-tier high school, trade school, college, or starting a career.

Last year, 81% of graduates enrolled at an Archdiocesan Catholic high school, an Independent Catholic or Non-Catholic School, or a PHL Special Admit/Magnet school.
