New Beginnings of Northwest Hills
Litchfield County (CoC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the mission of
managing The Gathering Place.
The Gathering Place is a daytime drop-in
center and the "point of entry" for all homeless individuals,
families, veterans, youth and seniors in Litchfield County and the centralized site
to access multiple professional services and resources. We are the year round
one stop that gives adults and families with babies and children a safe and
comfortable place to come to receive services, receive their mail (extremely
important for receiving essential benefits such as housing notifications,
medical insurance, food stamps, potential employment); take a shower; do
laundry; speak to a Provider one on one; utilize our phone; obtain clothing for
employment interviews or just in general. Other vital services provided at The
Gathering Place include mental health referrals; substance abuse referrals; MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment); haircuts; supported employment
referrals; application for government cell phones; photo ID's; food stamps and
medical insurance application assistance; securing housing assistance;
obtaining housing; security deposits and eviction prevention assistance. Furthermore,
not only do we deliver and make available all these wonderful services to our
clients but most importantly, we provide every individual and family HOPE
and resources for a New Beginning and fresh start while many wait for
permanent housing or others to temporarily utilize the emergency shelters in Torrington and Winsted. Finally,
our community benefits from New Beginning’s drop-in center as we supply both services
and a place for many to stay during the day instead of hanging out at local
area businesses.
Since COVID- there has been a significant increase in seniors (62 and over) on a fixed income that are losing their housing because they can not afford the uncontrolled increases in rent. Appalling and totally unacceptable!!!
The Gathering
Place provided services to 151 individuals and families last month-March 2024 with a total of 603 visits during this period. 737 people were provided services from March 2023-March 2024 with a total of 8290 visits during this time frame.
The Gathering
Place provided 2,281 showers and 736 loads of laundry over the past year
(March 2023-March 2024). The cost of electricity for this period alone was
$7,747.00.
Please note - The Gathering Place does not receive any federal, state or local funding- just
from written grant approvals and generous donations from our community and churches.
Please find it in your heart to donate and help keep our doors
open and to be able to purchase necessary items for operations.
