Making Dreams Come True—Then and Now!
Over 40 years ago, Hugh R. Copeland, had a bold vision: to create a space where every child could explore the performing arts, regardless of financial means. With the support of a passionate group of believers, that dream became a reality—The Hurrah Players was born.
From humble beginnings in a church basement, we’ve grown into Virginia’s leading family theatre company, offering professional training in acting, dance, and musical theatre. Thanks to generous supporters like you, we’ve never turned a student away due to financial hardship. Today, 47% of our students attend on scholarship, opening doors that might otherwise remain closed.
Lights, Camera, Hurrah!
The Hurrah Players Television & Film Academy Is Now Open
We’re thrilled to announce that The Hurrah Players' Television and Film Academy (TFA) is officially open! As the first youth-focused program of its kind in our region, the TFA is already empowering students to explore on-camera acting, scriptwriting, directing, editing, and media production.
Students now have access to hands-on training and a student-run media center, where they’re gaining real-world experience by working on in-house projects and collaborating with local businesses. It’s a powerful extension of our mission to prepare young artists for a future in the arts.
This milestone was made possible by generous donors who helped us acquire the former Glass Wheel Studio and redevelop it into a 3 story Academy building which now houses the TFA and our Performing Arts Academy. We’re also upgraded the Hugh R. Copeland Center with a climate-controlled costume workshop and storage facility—ensuring all our creative departments will continue to thrive.
