The Warner House Association is a nonprofit that seeks to promote, protect, and preserve the historic brick structure known as The Warner House in downtown Portsmouth, NH. The museum house is open seasonally for guided tours.
It is with great pleasure that I announce all proceeds from NH Gives go towards the cupola roof repair!
During a 2022 building inspection, it was discovered that moisture entering through the cupola has been slowly damaging the roof structure over the past few decades. The cupola structural support and parts of the roof are in need of repair!
Luckily, the New Hampshire Land and Community Heritage Investment Program, known as LCHIP, has viewed the damage and agreed to provide up to $100,000 in matching funds!
Estimated repair costs are around $275,000. We are almost there, we just need a small push to meet the repair goal. Besides the massive effort towards the LCHIP, many grants have been received and donors (particularly the current board members), have stepped up. To date, we have received $240,000 in grants and generous donations so far. In addition to NH Gives, we are planning a couple of fun fundraising events. Follow us on Facebook or Instagram to stay tuned!
The Warner House Association's Board of Governor's is doing our best, but we need your help! Anything you can give through NH Gives helps preserve the museum and supports the Seacoast region. Donors are also granted a free 1 year membership to the Association. This gets you our newsletter, free access to visit the Warner House Museum this season (now open for 2024), and invitations to member events!
The image to the left shows rotted beams making up parts of the interior cupola support structure. The cupola damage is an existential threat to the museum and the many artifacts inside. The incredible murals (pictured below) are directly at risk if we are unable to make these repairs. The good news is that the proposed repairs will be long lasting, enduring for over 100 years.
Built in the early 1700s, the Warner House was the home of six generations of extended family (spanning over 300 years). New Hampshire's first Royal Colonial Governor lived there for a time. Warner House has hosted famous visitors like Benjamin Franklin and General Lafayette. If you enjoy downtown Portsmouth and maintaining the city's historical charm and vibrancy, please support the Warner House and by extension, the arts, culture, history, and education of New Hampshire.
