The Collective Thread

After successfully completing the sewing school students will know how to independently operate domestic and industrial sewing machines, coverstitch machines and serger machines and how to adjust machine tension, stitch widths and lengths to accommodate a wide variety of fabrics. This vocational training will move immigrant and underserved St. Louisans from very limited job opportunities to the potential of jobs supporting a middle class life.
A successful sewing school program is needed to meet the charity's goal of improving equity, inclusion and diversity in our local workforce by empowering women in particular to develop the skills needed to help support their families in a meaningful way. Enlarging our St. Louis industrial sewing workforce is critical to re-establishing a thriving garment production industry in the region.
