The Inner Pup, who are we, who aren’t we?

We are NOT a rescue. We are PREVENTION.
We don’t house animals inside a shelter building. We stop pets from entering shelters in the first place. Our work happens strictly in underserved New Orleans neighborhoods, where poverty rates are high and barriers to veterinary care are real. When access doesn’t exist, surrender can feel inevitable. We step in before it gets there. 

What We Do, and Why It Works 

With 200+ volunteers and 25 veterinarians in our network, we bring heartworm prevention, treatment, veterinary assistance, training, and cat wellness directly into the communities that need it most. On porches. In church parking lots. In familiar neighborhood spaces. We build trust month after month because when families feel respected and supported, they reach out early instead of waiting for crisis.

Our Impact in Underserved Neighborhoods
Prevention rooted in trust changes outcomes:

• 2,500 families helped

• 13,502 pet visits provided

• 160 community clinics hosted

• 79 dogs completed or currently enrolled in training

• 154 pets received Veterinary Assistance in 2025 alone

Our care strengthens the human-animal bond, improving the emotional and physical well-being of families, affirming that pets are truly family, and giving owners the access and confidence to advocate for their pets’ health and quality of life.
