THROUGHLINE THEATRE COMPANY

A nonprofit organization

The mission of Throughline Theatre Company is to demonstrate the existence of common themes throughout literary history that bridge generations and bring into perspective the constancy of the human condition. We achieve this by presenting a series of plays each season from disparate time periods, notably Classical, 20th Century, Contemporary and New works, finding a throughline that bridges generations of theatrical experience.

Throughline Theatre is dedicated to bringing quality art and performances to its audiences by partnering with the local community. Throughline Theatre considers itself interactive -- responding to, and changing with, the needs of the people it serves. Theatre is meant to be so much more than just observed, and Throughline Theatre strives to make that a reality.

Every season, Throughline Theatre chooses a lineup with one common theme that connects each production. The pieces are pulled from different classifications -- classical, contemporary, 20th century, and a new work. Like theatre is meant to be engaged and interactive, it should also be contextualized, and seeing the throughline span time and type allows conversation, dialogue, and interpretation with the community. There can certainly be art for art's sake, but it is powerful to see it outside of the vacuum as well.

Like the community it serves, Throughline Theatre is living and evolving, and our goal is to always provide the kind of theatre our audience needs and wants to see and be a part of .

Testimonials

"Productions such as the new one by Throughline Theatre Company are what keep the Bard fresh even in the 400th anniversary of his death. Director Joseph Ryan Yow's utilization of a bare-bones set and cross-gender casting in many roles is, ironically, very Elizabethan, yet makes for wonderfully modern theater. And it brings exciting freshness to scenes often moribund with convention." Pgh City Paper

"In an age of assassination-by-drone, government-sanctioned torture and the "collateral damage" that ensues, Abby Mann's 2001 play Judgment at Nuremberg remains painfully relevant. But Throughline Theatre Co. artistic director Liam Macik seems positively psychic in scheduling the World War II war-crimes drama, given the current political campaign against an independent judiciary and increasing discussion of our own "Weimar Moment."
