The mission of the Tom Green County Hunger Coalition is to coordinate hunger relief efforts in Tom Green County by facilitating programs that address the issue of hunger for today, tomorrow, and a lifetime.
The programs of the Coalition include the following:
- Kids Eat Free - A summer meal program that has provided 314,490 meals to children and their caregivers in July and August to make sure that no child goes hungry in the summer months.
- Outrun Student Hunger - A short walk/run program to highlight the food pantries at Angelo State University and Howard College which meet the needs of food insecure students.
- Blessing Boxes - Boxes in 12 locations throughout San Angelo filled with shelf stable food available for people in need.
- San Angelo Pocket Resource Guide - A handy pocket guide that lists the locations of a variety of services in San Angelo, including food banks, pantries, and soup kitchens.
- Christmas Boxes - Boxes of food that are prepared and given to students to make sure they have food through the Christmas break.
- Senior Fiesta - A fun event at the 618 S. Chadbourne Senior Center which includes information from organizations that provide services to seniors, speakers that touch on senior specific topics, lunch, entertainment, and bingo. This event also promotes the center as a congregate meal site.
- Food Drives - An annual food drive at Market Street to collect non-perishable food for senior adults and for the Blessing Boxes.
