A Decade of Building Bridges: The Train Up a Child NOLA Story

Ten years ago, Train Up a Child NOLA set out with a simple but vital mission: to ensure that a zip code never determines a child’s destiny. As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we aren’t just looking at numbers on a page; we are looking at a decade of doors opened and cycles broken.

The journey begins with the 30 young dancers who found their rhythm through our partnership with the Lyfe of Dance program. For these students, financial barriers threatened to keep them on the sidelines, but through our scholarships, they found a stage. That same spirit of community fueled our three Summer Enrichment Camps with NORD, providing a safe, vibrant space for children to learn and grow during the hottest months of the year.

As our students grew, so did our commitment to their futures. We realized that the transition from high school to adulthood is where many are left behind. To meet that challenge, our College and Career Prep program became a launchpad for 50 local students.

The results speak for themselves: 10 of those students walked directly into job offers, gaining immediate economic independence. Another 40% of the class looked toward the horizon of higher education. To make those dreams a reality, we’ve awarded 20 college scholarships to underserved youth across New Orleans, with three of our most recent graduates securing additional funding to support their academic journey.

Today, Train Up a Child NOLA stands as more than just a nonprofit—it is a vital pillar in the fight for violence prevention and career equity. Every scholarship awarded and every job offer signed is a step toward a safer, stronger New Orleans.
