Upland Fire Company No. 1

The Upland Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 has been serving our community since 1926 and we are excited as we approach a very significant milestone next year - Our 100th Anniversary in 2026!

 We are located in the Borough of Upland, and serve not only our Borough, but we also provide mutual aid to many neighboring Boroughs and Townships as well as the City of Chester.

The Upland Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 responds to over 300 calls per year as has approximately 15 active firefighters lead by Fire Chief Jeff Hill.

Our current apparatus consists of a 2013 Seagrave Rescue Pumper designated as Squad 57, a 2004 Seagrave Pumper designated as Engine 57 and a 1999 Ford F-350 with utility body designated as Tac 57.

Upland Borough is 0.7 square miles in size and is a mix of residential properties and businesses. Upland is home to two elementary schools, one shopping center which includes a market and a fireworks showroom, a gas station and the Crozer Chester Medical Center which is the areas trauma center with over 400 beds amongst others.

The Upland Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 is located in the 6th Fire District within Delaware County. We participate in the 6th District Duty Engine Program which is a rotating schedule that assures a staffed piece of fire apparatus is on the street quickly for emergency calls in other areas of the 6th Fire District including Brookhaven, Parkside, Nether Providence, Swarthmore and Morton. 

Most don't realize the cost of the personal protective equipment that must be worn by our firefighters to emergency calls.

Here is an example of the cost to outfit ONE firefighter: Fire Coat - $2,400.00, Pants - $1,800.00, Helmet - $500.00, Boots - $500.00, Fire Gloves - $100.00, Rescue Gloves - 100.00, Nomex Hood - $50.00

Although the Fire Company has changed over the years, Upland Volunteer Fire Company's slogan has remained the same, "Always Ready".

Our dedicated first responders are a group of men and women who support their community to the fullest. We come from all walks of life and represent a variety of backgrounds.
