Touted as the first program of it's kind in Louisville, Volunteers of America Mid-States' Unity House provides safe emergency housing and support for unhoused families in need. 

For 40 years, Unity House has been a beacon of hope for families experiencing a housing crisis. Our shelter has the unique ability to serve the whole family in one location, helping them find safe, stable homes, and providing individualized care to aid them in returning to self-sufficiency.

Who We Are

Volunteers of America Mid-States creates positive change in the lives of individuals and communities through a ministry of service.

Established in 1896, Volunteers of America Mid-States is one of the region’s oldest, largest, and most diverse not-for-profit businesses. Today, we offer 30 distinct human service programs focusing on:

  1. Shelter, transitional housing and support services for unhoused families.
  2. Addiction recovery and counseling services for pregnant and parenting women, and men.
  3. HIV testing, prevention services, and housing support for people living with HIV/AIDS.
  4. Outreach services to address the root causes of health disparities and inequities by connecting underserved individuals with access to high-quality health care. 
  5. Home-based and non-residential support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  6. Housing for seniors with low-incomes.
  7. Homelessness prevention, employment and other supportive services for veterans and their family members.
  8. Restorative Justice (RJ) practices that help young people make amends for mistakes that could have a lasting impact on their lives.

Last year, we reached more than 5,000 people through our services.
