VOYCE helps to ensure a quality life for people living on the long-term care continuum. Our goal is to become the principal source of information and advocacy for these individuals and their families. We empower and educate those we serve. We do this by:

Illuminating choices
Providing a voice
Giving compassionate and comforting support
Building relationships with caregivers and the community

VOYCE, formerly the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, was founded in 1979 in St. Louis following the formation of the nationwide Long Term Care Ombudsman Program under the Older Americans Act of 1978. Congress created this Act in response to public outcry over abuse and neglect in long-term care facilities. Today, every state has an established Ombudsman Program - more than 500 programs operate across the United States. VOYCE receives funding from the Mid-East Area Agency on Aging, St. Louis Area Agency on Aging and Northeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging as well as from several United Ways including Greater St. Louis and , Franklin County Area. In addition, VOYCE receives foundation grants, corporate contributions and individual gifts to support its mission.

VOYCE fulfills its mission as an advocate and information source in 21 counties, including the city of St. Louis and the counties of St. Louis, St. Charles, Franklin, and Jefferson, as well as the following 16 northeast Missouri counties: Adair, Clark, Knox, Lewis, Lincoln, Macon, Marion, Monroe, Montgomery, Pike, Ralls, Randolph, Schuyler, Scotland, Shelby, and Warren.

VOYCE volunteers spend 2-4 hours a week listening to residents' concerns, helping resolve issues, and being there to listen. You'll receive training, ongoing support, and the satisfaction of knowing you are helping your neighbors when they need you the most. Training sessions will be provided, as well as quarterly continuing education to network with the other VOYCE volunteers. It's your chance to make a difference in the lives of those who need your help.
