World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh

A nonprofit organization

World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting a deeper understanding of key global issues throughout Western Pennsylvania in order to increase the region's global competence so that it can better compete, collaborate, and make informed decisions in the 21st century global environment.

Our flagship school program, The Global Leadership Certificate is designed for high school students to connect both in-school and out-of-school learning. Participants of this program have access to global events, expert speakers on international topics, career exploration tools, and travel opportunities. Students gain global fluency skills, knowledge, and dispositions needed to be successful in pursuing higher education and 21st century careers. This program is currently projected to reach 300 students in the 2016-2017 school year.

The Council's Public Programs provides an in depth look into international topics that may not receive mainstream media attention. Our high-quality speakers offer information and analysis that allow attendees to broaden their awareness, gain new perspectives, and make informed decisions.

[This project] also strengthened my leadership potential by allowing me to take initiatives and to serve as a liaison between the world and my peers." - Breanna M., Certificate Student

"Having a global understanding, personal leadership ability, and communication skills, are the 'soft skills' we know are essential to problem solving and success […] The Certificate is a unique, creative, and practical way to prepare today's youth for tomorrow's challenges." - Kathy W., Teacher
